Has your driver’s license been revoked for unpaid parking tickets?

Has your car been booted and impounded by the City of Chicago?

Do you have old parking tickets where the fines and penalties continue to increase the amount you owe?

The City of Chicago now has a program in place that allows you to discharge/eliminate either all or a portion of your parking tickets in a Chapter 7 case.  In the past, the only way to repay your parking tickets to the City of Chicago was by filing a Chapter 13 bankruptcy case.  This new program is much less costly than filing a Chapter 13 case and provides a streamlined alternative to individuals who have been trying to manage their outstanding parking tickets.

In order to qualify for this program you MUST meet the following requirements:

  1. Parking tickets/violations that were received at least 3 years prior to a Chapter 7 filing date – All penalties and fines are waived.
  2. Fines and penalties received within 3 years of filing of a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case – You can apply for an installment repayment plan over up to 3 years – minimum payment of $25/month.  If payment will be over $100.00 per month, the repayment term can be extended to 5 years.  This repayment will be for ONLY the tickets you received within 3 years of filing the Chapter 7 case.
  3. Under either of the above situations, you MUST receive a discharge in your Chapter 7 case in order to qualify for the program.

The Chapter 7 bankruptcy attorneys at Gregory K. Stern, P.C. are able to help determine if you qualify for the Fresh Start Program.

If your driver’s license has been suspended due to unpaid parking tickets you will be able to get your driver’s license reinstated if you qualify for the program

If your car has been impounded by the City of Chicago – the car owner will be required to pay 25% of total amount due or $1,000 whichever is less to regain possession of your car.

If you provide our office with your driver’s license number, license plate and ticket numbers, if available, the City of Chicago will provide you with an analysis of your tickets and a payment quote in the event you chose to submit an application for the Fresh Start Repayment Plan.

If you do not qualify for the Fresh Start Repayment Plan, the filing of a Chapter 13 case remains available to address your parking tickets, obtain release and turnover of your car, or get your driver’s license reinstated.

Gregory K. Stern, P.C. has Chapter 7 bankruptcy attorneys and Chapter 13 Bankruptcy attorneys who can determine if you are eligible for the Fresh Start Program.
